INSTRUCTIONAL FACTORS

Multiple Opportunities for Advancement

Students at MOJH have multiple and varied opportunities to explore college and career pathways. As 7th graders, all students take an exploratory course called College & Career Awareness, where they learn in computer labs, kitchen labs, and woodshop. All 7th graders are enrolled in a music class and learn to sing, play an instrument, or to appreciate music. Seventh graders each complete a coding class, which prepares them for multiple digital literacy opportunities in higher grades. As students enter 8th and 9th grades, they can take engineering, marching band, or competitive debate.. We have a thriving Latinos in Action program, wherein students learn to be leaders in the community. Our Accelerated Pathways program allows students to test out of grade-level math and ELA classes to advance to higher grades. Students in accelerated pathways can take Secondary Math II Honors, tenth grade English, and Chemistry, all while still at MOJH. Students at all grade levels have the opportunity to take an AVID elective class, specifically designed to help students learn study skills and organization skills imperative for success in post-secondary education. Other opportunities at MOJH include a multi-media Publications class, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, MESA club, and manufacturing classes. Mount Ogden is a Dual Language Immersion school; students in this program are speaking, reading, and writing advanced level Spanish by the time they move on to high school.
