Teacher Professional Development

Our teaching staff is committed to providing effective, engaging, quality instruction and the the very best culture and learning climate for our students. 100% of our teachers receive quality professional development directly supporting our school goals. For the 2020-21 school year, all teachers partipated in a series of trainings geared to increase our Tier 1 Behavior protocols. Each teacher was involved in complete observation/feedback and coaching cyles as they worked to implement the Tier 1 strategies in their classrooms. For the 2021-22 school year, all teachers will participate in 5 three-hour sessions of AVID Elevate XP: Academic Language and Learning, which provides teachers with exposure and experience with best-practice instructional strategies that will increase student engagement, reading and writing proficiency, and success in all content areas.

SEL Supports

Mount Ogden Junior High offers a multi-pronged approach to support student and adult social and emotional wellness. Our counseling center is staffed to include three experienced counselors, a full-time social worker/therapist, a full-time behavior interventionist, two student advocates, and a Community School Coordinator. Student supports include social skills groups, therapy, individual goal setting, tutoring, and connections to community programs as well. Mount Ogden has a wide variety of activities, groups, and organizations that seek to help all students feel connected, welcome, and safe. Among the clubs that are student-intiated are Chess Club, Book Club, Crochet Club, Volleyball Club, Dungeons & Dragons Club, and several others. Sports teams include flag football, basketball, wrestling, cross country, volleyball, softball, baseball, soccer, and track. Mount Ogden has a robust Fine Arts selection, and students can participate in marching band, jazz band, orchestra, and musical theater productions. All students meet weekly in their Advisory class, where they are matched with a caring adult in the building who leads them through goal setting, study skills practice, team building, and other activities designed to increase social emotional learning and wellness.
