LIBERTY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

SELF-REPORTED INDICATORS

Schools may choose to describe up to two additional pieces of information about how their school is supporting students. These self-reported indicators are not factored into school accountability calculations but provide the opportunity for schools to highlight successful programs or practices in addition to the indicators included in school accountability.

EQUITABLE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Candidacy for International Baccalaureate PYP

Liberty Elementary School officially entered its International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) candidacy, Candidacy requires undergoing a rigorous authorization process. The aim of all IB schools is to develop caring, confident students who recognize their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet. Central to this goal is a strong focus on international-mindedness. An IB education fosters international-mindedness by helping students reflect on their own culture and identities, as well as those of others. Educators at Liberty Elementary are engaged in ongoing professional development and are working collaboratively to design and implement learning experiences that aim to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people. Students in second grade and up are participating in a World Language and Culture class, in which they are exploring cultural diversity and commonalities through language. The Primary Years Programme is a whole school model that connects learning through six transdisciplinary themes and a holistic Programme of Inquiry. All students attending Liberty Elementary will engage in inquiry-based learning opportunities that encourage them to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners. We look forward to sharing IB student celebrations for years to come as we continue to pursue authorization in the 23-24 school year.

SCHOOL-LEVEL FACTORS

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

Liberty Elementary implemented a Positive Behavior Supports System and included a cultural responsiveness model this year. Our team uses evidence-based systems, supports, and data that reflect our school and community demographics. With the recent addition of the IB Primary Years Programme and Advanced Learning Academy, we have also begun the extensive process of streamlining each of our school systems into a cohesive system. With new supports and an established PBIS system, Liberty successfully communicated with stakeholders and gained their critical feedback; together, we identified four new school-wide expectations: I am Resilient, I am an Empowered Learner, I am a Diverse Thinker, and I am Safe and In Control. Liberty staff recognizes, teaches, reinforces, and celebrates our students at Tier 1 (classroom) level, including school-wide social-emotional learning assemblies, recognizing individuals for the student of the month, and grade-level criteria-based cafeteria/lunch parties. In addition, 100% of our students and teachers participated in a week-long PBIS kickoff integrated into the classroom, each common area, reinforced with practicing opportunities, and included competency checks for each grade level teacher and classroom. We have maintained our Tier 1 fidelity score from the TFI tool. Our TFI score holds strong at 86%) and increased our Tier 2 (support level) TFI score from 85 to 100% despite a move to a new building, student population, and behavior expectations.
