LIBERTY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

SELF-REPORTED INDICATORS

Schools may choose to describe up to two additional pieces of information about how their school is supporting students. These self-reported indicators are not factored into school accountability calculations but provide the opportunity for schools to highlight successful programs or practices in addition to the indicators included in school accountability.

EQUITABLE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

The International Baccalaureate Continuum Pathway

Utah’s only public International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum starts at Liberty Elementary. This authorization connects learners directly to Mount Ogden Junior High and Ogden High, creating a seamless K-12 pathway. While the flags in our hall represent our diverse community, our data represents our shared commitment to excellence. Access to opportunity and rigor, being part of an IB Continuum, means early access to inquiry-based learning. We believe opportunity means removing barriers to rigorous work. This year’s data confirms our learners are rising to the challenge: High Participation: In 2024-25, 26 5th graders participated in the National History Day challenge, dedicating themselves to deep historical inquiry. State Success: Learner’s rigorous preparation yields results. 8 Liberty learners advanced to the State History Day competition (3 from 5th grade, 5 from 6th). Innovation and Problem Solving: 33% of our Science Fair projects demonstrated such high quality that they qualified for the Regional Ritchey Science & Engineering Fair. Building future leaders, whether a student dreams of becoming a mathematician, author, or mechanic, their journey begins with the critical thinking skills developed here. By learning from each other rather than just alongside each other, Liberty learners are proving they are ready to shape the world.

TEACHER FACTORS

Holistic Growth in Gifted Education

To truly challenge our learners, we must first challenge ourselves as educators to meet the highest standards of professional expertise. A significant milestone in our commitment to academic excellence is that 100% of our school leadership and teaching staff have earned their Gifted and Talented endorsements. This achievement was the result of a rigorous professional journey, involving the completion of five comprehensive modules and participation in a specialized conference. This deep dive into gifted pedagogy has provided our educators with a sophisticated understanding of the unique cognitive and affective needs of high-ability learners. By equipping our entire staff with these specialized tools, we have shifted our teacher preparation to be more proactive, ensuring gifted education is integrated directly into Tier I instruction. This shared expertise has increased collaboration across the school as we work to refine the Gifted Program. By speaking a common language of enrichment, our teams are better positioned to navigate the complexities of specialized learning, resulting in a significantly enhanced program structure. Looking ahead, we have identified key areas of opportunity to further elevate the student experience. We are focusing on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and social interactions, recognizing that the holistic success of a gifted learner depends as much on their emotional resilience and peer relationships as it does on their academic acceleration.
