SELF-REPORTED INDICATORS

Schools may choose to describe up to two additional pieces of information about how their school is supporting students. These self-reported indicators are not factored into school accountability calculations but provide the opportunity for schools to highlight successful programs or practices in addition to the indicators included in school accountability.

INSTRUCTIONAL FACTORS

Ninth Grade Academy Success

To mitigate the conditions that prevent success during the 9th grade year, Timpview conceived a new Freshmen Framework (https://tinyurl.com/58xhuum5) called 9th Grade Academy (9GA). This framework involves utilizing a small learning community in which administrators and teachers work exclusively with 9GA to create a personalized schooling experience that is more responsive to their academic and social needs. Timpview High School piloted the 9GA during the 2021-22 school year in response to our School Improvement Plan goal which states 90% of freshmen will pass their core classes. Of the 100 students in the pilot (roughly 15% of the freshmen class), 17% were English Language Learners, 15% were enrolled in a reading support class, and 30% were enrolled in our AVID elective class. First, teachers committed to providing effective tier 1 instruction supported by AVID’s WICOR frame. Next, 9GA pilot teachers provided tier 2 academic intervention for their students within their class time. The third element: common policies and PD supported practices removed variance from teacher to teacher which can be confusing for students. Lastly, teachers engaged in student-centered collaboration. Data (https://tinyurl.com/4x3fytf6) outcomes of 9GA surpassed the 90% goal in comparison to students who did not participate in the program. As a result, 9GA has expanded to two cohorts of students and teachers in 2022-2023. Further details provided in the attachment.
