SELF-REPORTED INDICATORS
Schools may choose to describe up to two additional pieces of information about how their school is supporting students. These self-reported indicators are not factored into school accountability calculations but provide the opportunity for schools to highlight successful programs or practices in addition to the indicators included in school accountability.
STUDENT FACTORS
Extensive Opportunities for Student Participation
Student life at Early Light Academy makes us unique. As a History focused school, we immerse our students in engaging and rich history-based traditions woven throughout our school year, our curriculum, and community events. These events include Culture Night, Day in History and the culminating year-end History Fair. Our students have the opportunity to participate in innovative programs, such as GATE (Gifted and Talented), Tanner Dance, Elementary Choir and Orchestra, as well as instruction with our Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program Music Specialists. Our students work in hands-on modern science labs, participate in the Central Utah State Science and Engineering Fair, build teamwork skills and reinforce curriculum in an interactive Space Simulator, and regularly interact with Physical Education, Library Media and Leader in Me instruction. In the Junior High Schedule, elective offerings are determined each year based on student and teacher collaboration. We offer a wide range of extra curricular organizations, including Hope Squad, NJHS, Phoenix Feed Student Broadcasting, and school enrichment activities, including our 9th grade capstone experience. In addition to our state-of-the-art theater facilities, we boast a “Superior” rated performance choir who competes at the Spring Choir Festival each year. Early Light proudly participates in the Utah Charter League in coed cross country, boys and girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, and boys and girls soccer.
INSTRUCTIONAL FACTORS
Enhanced, Individualized Instruction
At Early Light Academy we empower students to be life-long learners and powerful contributors. By focusing on high-quality instruction and differentiation, we meet each student at their individual level exemplifying how our teachers and staff utilize effective instructional techniques. Our Grade Level Teams utilize learning management systems, such as Mastery Connect, to look at student data and make informed decisions regarding placement and instructional design. Students 2nd-9th grade have the opportunity to show mastery and move up a grade level in math. In addition, Junior High students may participate in Honors and Advanced Placement classes. Pull-outs are built into our daily schedule; including math enrichment, Tier II and Tier III reading intervention, and Special Education supports. Para Professionals are in each of our buildings to assist with small group and personalized instruction to reinforce concepts taught in whole group instruction. Junior High students check their academic progress each week in their Phoenix Advisory class. Academic work time is given and teachers are there to support them in making plans for retaking tests or completing assignments before the FRED (Final Retake Day) date. Advisory teachers send emails to parents weekly to notify them of grades D and below. We are a 1:1 technology integrated school; using technology and adaptable digital resources, student achievement is enhanced in the areas of literacy, math, writing, and problem solving.
