SHADOW VALLEY SCHOOL

SELF-REPORTED INDICATORS

Schools may choose to describe up to two additional pieces of information about how their school is supporting students. These self-reported indicators are not factored into school accountability calculations but provide the opportunity for schools to highlight successful programs or practices in addition to the indicators included in school accountability.

SCHOOL-LEVEL FACTORS

A new look to our Environmental Magnet!

This past year has been instrumental in reconnecting with our magnet environment. These are a few of the initiatives that we took: 1. Our garden is back up and running. With the help of our community, we built new garden boxes and planted a lot of different seeds in each. Every grade level is now responsible for a few boxes. They are in charge of the planting, watering, winterizing, and harvesting. 2. Hydroponics: Each class is equipped with a hydroponic system. In contrast to our garden, students are learning how to grow herbs and vegetables without the soil. It is a partnership that we have with the Stem Action Center. 3. A partnership was created with the Ogden Nature Center. All classes in the school were able to go to the Nature Center and be taught by their Green Ambassador peers. It was a leadership opportunity and a great experience for all learners. 4. The recycling program is back and running. This year we added the food recycling program. Students learned about what is recycled in their food and what is not. We are now ready for the next step in the process. 5. Finally, we were able to have our fitness challenge back. This year we opted for a fun run instead of a 5k, The idea was to involve more families and to make it friendly and fun for all. We pushed the competition away and included the extended families ( parents-grandparents) to be part of our community.

EQUITABLE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Collaborative relationship

At Shadow Valley Elementary, we are excited about our collaborative relationship with our partners. We are proud to name WSU as a primary partner making it possible for our students to have access to quality programs, student teachers, STEM programs, and much more. We are fortunate to have partnership grants making arts instruction available to all of our students through the Beverly Sorensen Grant. We are also the recipients of continual service and support from a robust Parent Teacher Association which supports our school goals and classroom activities. We have a very active Community Council that helps us make all of our school planning decisions. This past year, we initiated our new partnership with FREY preschool program, allowing our family access to a quality education for our r youngest children. The program will be hosted in our facilities and we believe, will have a big impact on our literacy preparedness.
