SELF-REPORTED INDICATORS
Schools may choose to describe up to two additional pieces of information about how their school is supporting students. These self-reported indicators are not factored into school accountability calculations but provide the opportunity for schools to highlight successful programs or practices in addition to the indicators included in school accountability.
SCHOOL-LEVEL FACTORS
Taking the Environmental Magnet to the Next Level
Shadow Valley Elementary has successfully sustained our existing initiatives while significantly expanding our environmental programming. Key developments include:Outdoor Classroom & Ecosystem Design: In addition to maintaining our productive garden, community support has allowed us to reclaim access to our outdoor classroom. We are currently redesigning this space into a water-wise ("zero-scape") landscape featuring multiple micro-ecosystems to support student exploration and environmental inquiry. Hydroponics & Culinary Arts: We are fully utilizing our hydroponic systems and have extended the curriculum to include a "farm-to-table" component. Students are now taking part in cooking classes using the vegetables they have grown and harvested themselves. Expanded Conservation & Service: Our recycling program has evolved into a broader community service initiative. We are now collecting non-perishable food for the local city food bank. Additionally, we have launched a soft-plastic recycling drive, collecting plastic bags to be upcycled into a bench for the school.Trout in the Classroom: Our Trout program is now in full swing. Students are actively observing and recording the life cycle and evolution of the trout. The program will culminate with a release event at the end of the school year.
EQUITABLE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Igniting Passions from the Stage to the Garden!
This year, Shadow Valley Elementary continued to prioritize holistic student development by leveraging community partnerships to provide high-quality enrichment opportunities accessible to every student. We are particularly proud of our sustained collaboration with the Ziegfeld Theater, an immersive program that allows up to 80 students to experience the full theatrical process—from auditions to performing a professional-grade production of The Lion King—under the guidance of industry professionals. Beyond the performing arts, we offer a diverse portfolio of activities to suit every interest, including Choir, Knitting, Cooking, STEM, Garden, Sports Intramurals, and Chess Club. Crucially, Shadow Valley ensures equity by offering all these extracurricular activities at no cost, removing financial barriers and guaranteeing that every learner has the opportunity to explore their passions and engage with their school community.
